The CONFERENCE VENUE is at Johannisstr. 20; 48143 Münster, Germany, right across from the LWL Museum Kunst & Kultur. This is 15 minutes from the main train station "Munster(Westf)Hbf", from where you can catch a bus, take a taxi, or walk to the venue. We are very pleased that our programme represents the wide disciplinary and thematic variety of the field of Afroeuropean Studies. Thematic foci of panels include: memory and museums; children’s literature and parenting; black histories; gender and queer politics; black Muslim identities; travel, diaspora, and migration; city spaces; music; cinema, visual cultures, and digital cultures; critical approaches to integrationist discourses; and theoretical considerations of the term ‘Afroeuropean.’

The informal opening will take place on Wednesday, 16 September, from 6 pm, and includes the film screening: REAL LIFE: Deutschland 2009 by Nancy Mac Granaky-Quaye. The screening (with English subtitles) will be followed by a discussion with the director.
The formal conference opening will be held on Thursday, 17 September, from 9:00 am.
The conference dinner will take place on Thursday, 17 September, in Schlossgartencafé (https://www.schlossgarten.com/). This is a ticketed event, you cannot pay at the door but must purchase your ticket when you register for the conference (http://www.wwu.de/AFROEU2015/reg.information.html).
Moreover, the conference will feature a roundtable discussion entitled "Why is my professor not black?". Shanell Johnson, one of the participants, addresses the issue in the following video clip.
