Amrei Sander studied Cultural Studies and Anglophone Literature at the University of Bremen. After finishing her M.A. in 2007 she worked in the publishing industry. Missing the scientific community and university life, she went back to university to continue her research in postcolonial studies. In this vast area, she focuses on cultural, collective and individual identity, including diaspora/trauma/memory studies with a closer look on Pakistani English literature written after the Partition of India. Therefore, her research project (doctoral thesis) focuses on the agency of women in the novels of Kamila Shamsie, analysing them not only from a feminist point of view but including the discourses of trauma and memory as well.

In addition to the academic work on her dissertation, Amrei Sander taught a number of courses such as "Academic Skills" and "Theory and Literature" at the English Department. Furthermore, she worked at the Student Advisory Service to offer advice to students and teachers regarding the department's degree programmes. Amrei Sander now works for the Zentrum für Lehrerbildung at the University Duisburg-Essen.
