Guide to the start of studies

The Department of Physics offers various opportunities for pupils to get to know the department before they start their studies. In addition to lecture visits, this includes various offers for pupils.

What do I do at all when I study?

The physics degree programme is clearly structured. In the basic studies, lectures and exercises are offered, supplemented by practical courses. You can find out exactly what the daily routine looks like in detail under Everyday Study Life. Since the courses build on one another, certain courses are scheduled for each semester. You can find information about the course of study for the various degree programmes under Bachelor's and Master's Study Courses.

How can I prepare for the programme before I start?

The individual courses of the physics degree programme build on one another, but in the first semester you start from the very beginning. So, don't panic! Internships before the degree programme are also not necessary.  Nevertheless, preparatory courses in physics and mathematics [de] are offered in German, which repeat the necessary content of the last school years. They are highly recommended as an introduction and for making initial contacts. For those who would like to prepare at home, there is a list of some of the textbooks that are often used in the foundation course. For more information, see Preparing for your studies.

How, when and where do I enrol?

The Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in physics and geophysics are open admission, the teacher programmes are admission restricted. Detailed information on the procedure and deadlines can be found under Enrolment.
