Telephone & Video Conferences

Service: As a substitute for personal meetings, telephone conferences, video conferences and streaming facilities are available. Please choose the service that best suits your usage scenario.

  • Telephone Conferences

    Usage Scenario: meetings/seminars with a manageable group size and high interaction of all participants

    Note: At https://nic.uni-muenster.de/NutzerTelefonanschluss you can find out if you have a Unify phone and if UC is enabled.

    • Unify Telephone:
      • Unified Communication is not activated: Please activate UC by sending a short request to km@uni-muenster.de, including your name, your university telephone number and your university ID. Once UC is activated, follow the steps in the next paragraph.
      • Unified Communication is already activated: You can start telephone conferences via the UC Web Client. To login, enter Your university-ID@wwu.de and your university password. Further information can be found in our manual for telephone conferences with the UC Webclient [de]. (Note: To dial directly into a conference call by phone, dial the number: 0251 83 20500, then enter the PIN number given to you by the organizer of the conference call. As the organizer you will find the number under "Call details").
    • Sopho/Philips Telephone: Please contact our hotline -31111 to obtain a PIN for our Telco system.

     

     

  • Video Conferences with ZOOM X, DFNconf & Jitsi Meet

    Usage Scenario: meetings/seminars with medium (DFNconf, Jitsi) to large (ZOOM X) group size and high interaction of all participants; exchange of visual information via video or shared screen

    • ZOOM X: With ZOOM X you can carry out video conferences and digital meetings with up to 300 participants (including screen sharing and chat). Due to its uncomplicated use and high stability even with many participants, the service is suitable for a wide range of communication scenarios, including teaching.
    • DFNconf: Using the DFNconf portal, employees of Münster University can create a video conference, in which telephone participants and video conference systems can also join.
    • Jitsi Meet: As an alternative to DFNconf, you can set up video conferences with Jitsi Meet. Jitsi Meet is operated by the CIT and is particularly suitable for smaller meetings with about 60 participants.

     

     

  • Video Conference Room & Video Conference Technology

    Video conference room at CIT, Röntgenstraße 7 (for about 10 people).
    Videoconferences (H.323) can be held securely and encrypted over the internet in the CIT videoconference room. Video conferencing systems offer high video and audio quality. Zoom meetings (H.323 connector required - university Zoom accounts have this automatically) and participation in DFNconf are also possible, even with multiple remote stations and simultaneous telephone participants (SKYPE is not supported). Simultaneous transmission of documents and presentations is possible. Users are supported by CIT technicians from planning to implementation. The use of the room is free of charge for Münster University employees.

    The video conference room has the following equipment:

    • Video conferencing systems YEALINK VC800
    • PC with internet connection
    • Media control via Wireless Crestron Touchpad
    • HDMI input for Notebook / USB Dongle for Yealink VC800 (Desktop Presentation)
    • Projection of the conference partner on screen
    • Projection of the self-image on 47" TFT display
    • Extensive audio and video mixing technology
    • Multipoint video conferences via DFN-MCU [de]
    • Audio conference telephone Konftel NI200

    Video Conference Technology
    The CIT's video conferencing technology also enables more complex usage scenarios such as global multipoint video conferences from Münster University lecture rooms or live streams from operating rooms in the medical field. You can find concrete examples in our overview.

  • Streaming (Teaching)

    For many scenarios, especially in teaching, a video conference is not the preferred option, but rather the asynchronous provision of previously recorded content. ZHLdigital has put together various options for digitizing lectures on its website on distance learning. A good alternative to live streaming, which is simple and can be done from home, is to add an audio track to your PowerPoint presentation. Students can view the presentation with a time delay. You can use our chat service Mattermost as a channel for student feedback.
