"Common diseases" the focus of student research projects

On the occasion of the 19th PharMSchool Symposium, the Pharmacampus gathered representatives from research, teaching and industry in Münster on June 16, 2023. For the first time, members of the German Pharmaceutical Society nationwide were also invited to participate in the academic exchange. Under the theme "Common Diseases", six student groups presented their research results of the last four semesters to the professional audience.

The influence of garlic on the intestinal microbiome, the development of an in situ gel implant with thyroid hormones, medication analyses, a survey on depression in pharmacy studies and the development of a tablet to increase the bioavailability of valsartan - all these were contributions to the symposium. In addition to the plenary presentations, each of the groups was able to provide further insight into their projects in a poster show. The works of the "Hypertension group" (influence of bitter orange peel extract on blood pressure) and the "Depression group" (preparation and study of transdermal patches with fluoxetine) were awarded poster prizes.

The student presentations were accompanied by guest lectures on the one hand by Prof. Dr. Dieter Steinhilber and Prof. Dr. Theo Dingermann of the Goethe University Frankfurt on Tina Turner and her renal insufficiency. In addition, Prof. Dr. Michael Müller from the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg made a plea for a sensible approach to the topic of sustainability in pharmacy.

During the breaks, the participants had the opportunity to look at the posters of the groups and to exchange ideas with the sponsors of the symposium while enjoying a snack.
