Web relaunch of the University of Münster

What is it about?

The University of Münster is planning to relaunch its website. The project is being supervised by the University's Web and Design department and CIT. The first stage of the relaunch involves the redevelopment of the corporate web design and the conversion of the central website. The websites of the departments, institutes, centres etc. will then be migrated to the new design step by step and with support. According to current planning, the relaunch of the central website includes a new web design, a new navigation structure and a revision of the content and its presentation. There will also be technical improvements, which will then be rolled out. An exact time frame for the relaunch cannot yet be outlined. All stakeholders will be informed in good time about upcoming steps so that there is sufficient time for any work to be carried out.

Current steps

November to December 2023 - Online survey on the website

The university-wide survey on the current website ended on 6 December. In addition to ongoing stakeholder interviews, the survey marked the starting point for the project and a needs analysis. The survey and the stakeholder interviews provide us with a revealing picture of opinions on the content, design and technology of the current websites. Together with the expertise of the Web and Design department and the CIT, this creates the basis for the next steps.

December 2023 to March/April 2024 - evaluation and needs assessment

We use the survey results to determine the main needs of the user groups. We expect to have analysed the survey results by the end of March and publish them here.

From March to June 2024 - project planning and preparation of further steps

With the needs identified, we will be able to outline project modules and steps in more detail and prepare the tender.

FAQs – What is planned exactly?

Why the relaunch?

The website’s system and design have been in use for several years now. To continue offering all target groups a modern, attractive, secure and intuitively-designed website, the Web and Design department in cooperation with the CIT of the University of Münster are planning a major relaunch.

What will the relaunch involve?

The first stage of the relaunch involves the new development of the corporate web design and the conversion of the central website. The websites of the departments, institutes, centres etc. will then be migrated to the new design step by step and with support. Of course, we will contact you at an early stage and support you if the relaunch affects your work as an Imperia editor. According to current planning, the relaunch includes the design and navigation structure, the content in the central website and other factors depending on the results of the analysis.

What does this mean for me as an institute, unit, instructor, employee, student ... ?

Initially, you don’t have to do anything. The website and the web content management system (WCMS) “Imperia” will continue operating while the relaunch is underway, and you will continue receiving our support as usual. The relaunch only applies to the webpages. Self-service applications like QISPOS, HIS-LSF, Learnweb, CRIS etc. will not be affected by the relaunch.

If content pages for which you are responsible need to be edited or moved to the new system, we will provide you with information about the necessary steps well in advance.

Who’s responsible for overseeing the relaunch?

The relaunch is being carried out by the Web and Design department in coordination with the CIT of the University of Münster.

How long will the relaunch take?

A fundamental web relaunch for a full university like the University of Münster with its 15 faculties and numerous other institutions is complex. We are not yet able to provide an exact time schedule for when all pages will be in the new design. As soon as we have defined the requirements and thus the task, we will inform you of the planned time horizon. In direct coordination with us, you will have sufficient time to migrate content to the relaunch if necessary.
