The Ehrenpreis Centre for Swift Studies is pleased to announce that it will host an exhibition exploring The Tale of Swift’s Whale, curated by Dr Corrina Readioff, University of Liverpool, in collaboration with the Department of English (Department Library, Second Floor).
Running for three months, from 30 November 2023 (Swift‘s birthday) to 29 February 2024, the exhibition will not only highlight the most striking holdings of the Ehrenpreis Centre but also tell the story of the Tub‘s illustrations over the centuries.

The PTTS Chair will host an Australian Studies Day at the University of Münster on June 30, 2023 from 9:00-15:00 in JO1. We invite all interested students and staff to this event and hope that we can welcome you on this occasion!

The Australian Studies Day follows on from the highly successful project launch of the joint online master's programme "Australian Studies" in Cologne last year. The event is designed to report on the development of the MA programme to stakeholders at the University of Münster as well as to facilitate in-person exchange between the four partner universities (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg-Essen, and Münster). The day's programme will also reflect on the research field and teaching area Australian Studies: what constitutes its core components, what ties it together, and why is it such a vital and exciting research field at the current moment?

Writer, activist, and performer Deborah D. E. E. P. Mouton will read from and discuss her memoir Black Chameleon on June 19th at 7 pm at the Studiobühne of the WWU, Domplatz 23. This event is in commemoration of the proclamation of the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865 and is meant to not only enter into a discussion on contemporary systemic racism in the U. S. but also to discuss the importance of mythology for Black women in the U. S., the potentials of autobiographical genres, and the role literature plays for the times in which we currently live.

This workshop engages with Prof. Bewes’s latest book, Free Indirect: The Novel in a Postfictional Age (Columbia University Press, 2022), which shakes the grounds on which the theory of the novel has long been standing and offers new ways of seeing and engaging with literature.

On Thursday, April 27th, we will be joined by Jessica Pressman to discuss her acclaimed book Bookishness: Loving Books in a Digital Age and its reception since it was published in late 2020. In this two parts event, we first create a library of bookish objects to glance at the every day images of bookishness, which will be followed by a masterclass by Jessica Pressman herself. All are invited!

We cordially invite you to attend our final GLAM talk this semester. Eugenie Brinkema from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be holding a talk on "Get Out; Or, How to Read a Sunken Form".
Dr. Brinkema's research in film and media studies focuses on violence, affect, sexuality, aesthetics, and ethics in texts ranging from the horror film to gonzo pornography, from the body of films dubbed “New European Extremism” to the viral media forms of terrorism. Her talk therefore promises to be quite thought provoking.

Join us this semester for the lecture series "Black German Studies Transatlantic Perspectives". Co-organized by the Chair for German Literature, Comparative Literary Studies and Transatlantic Literary History
and the Chair for English, Postcolonial and Media Studies at University of Münster, the seven events intend to offer space for exchange and reflection on the research field of Black German Studies and for engagement with scholars, authors/artists, and activists who contribute to this discourse.
